11th Annual AVCJ India Private Equity & Venture Forum
An explosion of conservatism: Leading to a vintage year?
Following the global financial crisis, and the euphoria that preceded it, PE in India is back on track. The wobbles on the Indian exchanges and the resulting indigestion for funds which jumped into PIPEs in late 2007 and early 2008 have done their work; in the words of one seasoned investor, gone is the intellectual arrogance of (believing oneself to be) getting ahead of the crowd. Others remark on the very sober way valuations are now being looked at—a result of which is the slower deal-flow the market is presently seeing. That said, the well of opportunity is still very much welling, increasing numbers of investors are arriving with money they’ve diverted from the basket-cases of the Western world, and AVCJ’s India Forum is still the marquee Indian private equity event. In everyone’s calendar, and on everyone’s travel schedule.
We look forward to seeing all of our old friends again, and to meeting lots of new ones when we return in December.
